La Asamblea Nacional de Venezuela, de mayoría opositora, arranca este sábado una nueva etapa de confrontación con el gobierno al declarar la ilegitimidad del presidente Nicolás Maduro a pocos días del inicio de su segundo mandato, mientras se intensifican las presiones internacionales para que se convoque nuevamente a elecciones en el país suramericano.

Luego de tres años de forcejear sin éxito con Maduro, la oposición aprovechará el inicio de sesiones del Congreso y la instalación de una nueva directiva para intensificar la confrontación contra el mandatario, que inicia el 10 de enero su segundo mandato de seis años en medio de crecientes presiones internas y externas, y una profunda crisis económica y social.

Los alrededores del Palacio Legislativo, ubicado en el centro de la capital, amanecieron tomados por decenas de guardias nacionales que restringieron el paso de vehículos y personas al lugar.

A pocas horas del inicio de la sesión, Roberto Campos, integrante del equipo de la subsecretaria de la Asamblea Nacional, informó en su cuenta de Twitter que miembros de la policía política habrían detectado una supuesta granada fragmentaria en el palacio, pero hasta el momento las autoridades no se han pronunciado sobre el caso.

Campos difundió en su cuenta una fotografía del momento en el que miembros del Servicio Bolivariano de Inteligencia Nacional (SEBIN) y congresistas realizaban una inspección en el Congreso para garantizar la seguridad del edificio.

La nueva directiva de la Asamblea Nacional ratificará este sábado el desconocimiento a la reelección de Maduro y declarará su ilegitimidad para el segundo mandato, adelantó el diputado opositor Edgar Zambrano, quien asumirá como primer vicepresidente del Congreso.

Sobre el papel que cumplirá el Congreso en esta nueva etapa Zambrano no adelantó detalles y solo dijo a AP que el Parlamento actuará con base a lo establecido en la constitución.

Tras los comicios presidenciales del 20 de mayo, la oposición anunció que no reconocería la reelección de Maduro alegando que el proceso no se realizó bajo condiciones transparentes y apegadas a las leyes, pero hasta el momento no ha establecido las acciones que seguirá tras declarar su ilegitimidad.

La nueva directiva estará encabeza por el diputado Juan Guaidó, de 35 años, miembro del partido Voluntad Popular que dirige el líder Leopoldo López, quien se encuentra bajo arresto domiciliario desde el año pasado tras ser condenado a casi 14 años de cárcel por promover unas protestas en el 2014.

La instalación de la nueva directiva se da un día después del duro pronunciamiento que realizó el Grupo de Lima, que integran 14 países de la región, que pidió a Maduro que no asuma el 10 de enero el segundo mandato, y que transfiera el poder a la Asamblea Nacional hasta que se convoquen nuevas elecciones.

Trece de los representantes de las cancillerías, con excepción de México, aprobaron un documento en el que reiteran que la elección presidencial del 20 de mayo “carece de legitimidad por no haber contado con la participación de todos los actores políticos venezolanos, ni con la presencia de observadores internacionales independientes, ni con las garantías y estándares internacionales”, y plantean el no reconocimiento de la legitimidad del nuevo período de Maduro.

Asimismo, el grupo llamó a endurecer las sanciones contra el gobierno de Maduro y sus funcionarios, y expresó su apoyo a los esfuerzos para iniciar procedimientos contra el mandatario venezolano en la Corte Penal Internacional.

Al rechazar el pronunciamiento, el canciller Jorge Arreaza acusó al Grupo de Lima de “alentar un golpe de estado” al intentar desconocer al gobierno y las instituciones, y dijo que Venezuela responderá bajo el principio de reciprocidad a las acciones que individualmente decida tomar cada gobierno.

Arreaza ratificó la legitimidad del gobierno de Maduro e indicó que tomará posesión el 10 de enero como lo establece la Constitución por lo que “no requiere de la venia de ningún gobierno extranjero”.

Mientras las tensiones internas y externas se intensifican la crisis económica y social continúa profundizándose en Venezuela ante el vertiginoso avance de la hiperinflación que alcanzó los siete dígitos y la paralización del aparato productivo.
